چکیده

High harmonics generated due to the scattering of relativistic electrons from high intensity laser light is studied. The experiments are carried out with an Nd:Glass laser system with a peak intensity of 2310 W cm in underdense plasma. It is shown that, at high intensities, when the normalized electric field approaches unity, in addition to the conventional atomic harmonics from bound electrons there is significant contribution to the harmonic spectrum from free electrons. The characteristic signatures of this are found to be the emission of even order harmonics, linear dependence on the electron density, significant amount of harmonics even with circular polarization and a much smaller spatial region over which these harmonics are produced as compared to the atomic case. Imaging of the harmonic beam shows that it is emitted in a narrow cone with a divergence of 2 to 3 degrees. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1470167#

One of the interesting Laser-Plasma phenomena, when the laser power is high and ultra intense, is the generation of large amplitude plasma waves (Wakefield) and electron acceleration. An intense electromagnetic laser pulse can create plasma oscillations through the action of the nonlinear pondermotive force. electrons trapped in the wake can be accelerated to high energies, more than 1 TW. Of t...

Comment on "transition to the relativistic regime in high order harmonic generation".

Experiments and computer simulations on the generation of high order harmonics from steep plasma gradients using intense femtosecond laser pulses are presented. Qualitative changes in the harmonic emission take place when the intensities are increased above 10(19) W/cm2 and/or the plasma scale length is varied. Good agreement between experimental and calculated spectra makes it possible to clea...

Second harmonic generation and its interaction with relativistic plasma waves driven by forward Raman instability in underdense plasmas

High conversion efficiency ~0.1%! into second harmonic light generated in the interaction of a short-pulse intense laser with underdense plasma has been observed. In this experiment the plasma is created by optical field ionization of hydrogen or helium gas. Second harmonic spectra observed in the forward direction show Stokes and anti-Stokes satellites. This is due to the interaction of the se...

Investigation of the XUV Emission from the Interaction of Intense Femtosecond Laser Pulses with Solid Targets

The generation of coherent high-order harmonics from the interaction of ultra-intense femtosecond laser pulses with solid density plasmas holds the promise for table-top sources of intense extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and soft x-ray (SXR) radiation. Furthermore, they give rise to the prospect of combining the attosecond pulse duration of conventional gas-harmonic sources with the photon ux current...

Time Frequency Analysis of Higher Harmonic Generation in a Three Color Laser Pulse

high harmonic generation is a useful tool for the generation of short, intense attosecond pulses. In order to simulate high harmonic generation, we performed a numerical solution to the time dependent Schrödinger equation. by considering dipole approximation, we predicted generation of a 53 attosecond pulse. In order to see the time and frequency of emission of attosecond pulse, we exploit...
